Hammock camping accessories: tarps
Also known as a rainfly, tarps are a hammock accessory you may not want to miss. Tarps would not simply protect you from rain, but also the wind and sunlight, and other elements as well. You not only need them during storms or rain but virtually any camping environment and climate. There are several types of hammock tarps that you can choose from. There are asymmetric tarps, diamond tarps, hex tarp, rectangle tarp, and the tent-like, 4-season tarp. Chose the tarps according to your needs and preferences, and of course, the climate you’re camping in.
Mosquito net
Wherever you’re camping bug nets are more than just essential. Aside from bug nets, bring some mosquito repellent as well just in case. Bug nets are one of the most fragile hammock camping accessories simply because of its nature. It is thin and very lightweight, and very prone to tear. Just a small hole on your bug net may get some mosquitos inside your sleeping setup. To prevent this, mosquito repellents usually work fine. Certain oils like cajuput may also work quite effectively.

Hammock underquilts are extremely important to keep you warm while you sleep. You’re going to be suspended on the air. It’s one of the must-have items if you’re camping in the colder months. But even during the warmer months, the night could get very cold. It’s a good idea to bring under quilts for its insulating purposes and for extra comfort.

Carabiners are a hammock suspension system that generally comes along with your hammock. They also make hanging your hammock quicker as they simplify the hanging process. Not much fiddling with tying would be required. Hammock carabiners are often made of aluminum as its main material, with spring or wire as the gate. Bring some extra for various purposes such as attaching your hammock setup to your backpack.
Hammock topquilt
Topquilts for your hammock setup provides extra insulation to help better protect you from the elements, just like an underquilt. Top quilts give you that extra protection, not unlike a blanket. It is a good addition to your setup as they provide more insulation on top of your clothes or coats.
Extra accessories
When it is one of your first-time hammock camping, it’s a good idea to bring some extra hammock camping accessories.
